PRoF5.0 - Pandemic Room designed for Flexibility in the future
Long before the 2020 coronavirus crisis forced hospitals to redesign hospital spaces almost overnight, providing extra beds for COVID-19 patients, PRoF already devised and developed flexible patient rooms. The 2016 PRoF concept of the Twin Patient Rooms provided a solution to a double challenge: to do away with loneliness, which has a negative impact on patients’ well-being and recovery, and to empower patients and give them ownership of their care and treatment.
The PRoF 5.0 concept consists of two adjoining hospital rooms that can be separated or interconnected according to the need of the moment. One of the rooms is fully equipped with state-of-the-art care technology, the other room can be easily converted into a comfortable guest room in case patients want to have their partner, a family member or friend staying with them overnight. If there is no need, then the twin room can easily be converted into a fully equipped patient room as well.
In response to the 2020 pandemic, the PRoF 5.0 concept was revisited and proved to be even more relevant. By providing twin rooms that are separated by a glass wall, patients that need to be isolated can still remain ‘in touch’ with their loved ones. Should extra beds be needed to meet a crisis, then the ‘guest rooms’ can quickly be turned into fully operational extra care units. |
