2014 PRoF Care Organisation award

The PRoF Award 2014 organisation, this year goes to a nursing organisation: the White Yellow Cross of East Flanders (Wit-Gele Kruis Oost-Vlaanderen).

As an autonomous Care Organisation they combined, with great success, forces with Flanders Synergy to jointly develop a new nursing organisation.

White Yellow Cross East Flanders started in 2012 with a complete redesign of their organisation. From the start, employees and external stakeholders, including patients, caregivers and physicians were involved in the innovation process for the new organisation. The organisation has been completely redesigned from a bureaucratic functional structure into a flexible and agile organisation base on local community teams that are working based on self-management principles. The self-managing community teams consist of about 10 nursing and care experts who are responsible for developing coordinated and comprehensive care for patients in the district. They jointly own the entire care process and hence they also get a lot of personal control power. This can be done since the White Yellow Cross strongly believes in the competence of its employees. As a result, the team of nursing and care experts create a uniform and familiar face for the patient, doctor and other caregivers involved.
Represented by (in alphabetical order):
Mia De Caluwé, directeur zorgkwaliteit & -innovatie
Katlyn Colman, algemeen directeur
Katalien Dendooven, directeur zorgverlening
Danielle Van Landuyt, directeur personeel & organisatie
Collaboration with local GPs and other health profesionals is high priority. The White Yellow Cross nurse takes  on a coordinating role - led by the GP - and as such he/she is the contact point for the patient, the patient environment and the caregivers involved. White Yellow Cross wants to be the reference in nursing providing overall and socially responsible patient care and it wants to give its employees enthusiasm by valuing them as professionals.
