PRoF UGent Chair Award

On May 16th 2018, the international PRoF symposium is held again in Ghent. The University of Ghent is always looking for innovative projects in healthcare applications. To achieve this, an award competition is organised for the fourth time by the PRoF chair, held by prof. dr. R. Peleman. The laureates of the PRoF Award competition will be invited for the Award ceremony chaired by former President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, during the international symposium, held in Ghent on May 16th 2018 .
The competition accepts all innovations created in the healthcare domain (medical, care, ageing society, etc.) and more specific in one of the following areas:
The competition targets all innovations that are in a late research phase (e.g. proof-of-concept) and in or ready for an early market phase (pilot phase, first market introduction). All applications will be published on the PRoF website as previous years (candidates 2015, candidates 2016)
The competition accepts all innovations created in the healthcare domain (medical, care, ageing society, etc.) and more specific in one of the following areas:
- new concepts or theories in healthcare models (medical, care, ageing society)
- new insights regarding healthcare infrastructure (architecture and/or equipment)
- innovating healthcare processes and/or procedures
- innovating healthcare products and/or services

Award details
The jury will select the top 3 innovating projects that will be invited to present their project during the international symposium on May 16th 2018 in Ghent. During the symposium, a winner will be selected out of these 3 laureates who will receive the PRoF award (with a value of 10.000 €). The winner will be invited to present the results achieved by winning the award during the 2019 Award Symposium. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by sending an email to PRoF-Award@uzgent.be, containing a brief summary of the project and contact details.
Jury Composition
The Jury will be chaired by former President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and will be formed by a number of experts with a complementary interdisciplinary background (medical, care, technology, ethical, business, etc.). The identity of the individual jury members will not be disclosed.
Evaluation criteria
- Innovation is created according to the 8 PRoF values
- Innovation is created based upon interdisciplinary collaboration and/or inter-university/school collaboration
- There is an impact on the healthcare system
- the innovation is an answer to a real need or demand
- there is a first validation of the concept
- there is a demonstrable benefit to the patient and/or society
- There are sustainable societal and/or business aspects
- the concept has an exploitation potential (societal and/or business)
- there is a vision towards further development/deployment/roll out beyond the initial test setting
- The authors themselves are involved daily in the solution and have a demonstrable expertise in the field
- There are realistic next steps explained.
- It is made clear what the Award money would be used for.
